Blow Job = Treason. Blowing Agent's Cover = OK!

The right have been falling all over themselves for the past 24 hours trying to explain away the Valerie Plame case. One conservative friend of mine is convinced that since Bob Novak came out with a frantically backpedaling explanation, everything must be OK (Jesse over at Pandagon takes Novak's "explanation" to pieces here and Kevin Drum rips in here). Ha. If only it were that simple.... Mark Kleiman has a comprehensive update of all the craziness here. As Mark points out, it's worth remembering that Karl Rove was fired from the 1992 Bush campaign for...leaking a story to Robert Novak. Interesting, no?

Nope, this one is not going to just "go away" or be wished away.

Krugman on the Loot-o-rama

Paul Krugman is back from his much-deserved vacation and has a good piece in the NYT this morning about the looting going on in Iraq at the present time, as the pals and buddies of President Stupid and Bunker Boy cash in on Operation Iraqi "Freedom."

One reason Iraq still faces blackouts is that local experts and institutions were excluded from the repair business. Instead, the exclusive contract was given to Bechtel, whose Republican ties are almost as strong as Halliburton's. And if a recent story in The Washington Post is accurate, Bechtel continues to ignore pleas by Iraqi engineers for essential spare parts.

Meanwhile, several companies with close personal ties to top administration officials have begun brazenly offering their services as facilitators for companies seeking Iraqi business. The former law firm of Douglas Feith, the Pentagon under secretary who oversees Iraq reconstruction, has hung out its shingle. So has another company headed by Joe Allbaugh, who ran the Bush-Cheney campaign in 2000 and ran FEMA until a few months ago. And a third entrant is run by Ahmad Chalabi's nephew.

If you still believe that this was a preemptive strike to take out potential terrorists, think again and ask yourself: who benefits? Not you, American taxpayer, but the parasites who are taking your hard earned tax dollars and stuffing them into their already bulging bank accounts, that's who.

Californians Just as Stupid as People in Alabama!

Voters in California appear to be ready to fall for Karl Rove's happy plot to capture the 2004 election by putting his own people into place in California. Let's be honest: the "voter revolt" against Gray Davis is about as genuine as Iraqi WMD. From the beginning this was an egregious attempt to subvert democracy, and Californians are stupidly following the piper down to the river in the wake of a not over-bright, misogynistic bodybuilder who is best known for his acting roles as a robot. Wonderful.
