The Greatest Generation

This link is the obituary of my Uncle Russ, who was a special man to his entire family. In the 30s he was in the CCC, then became a pattern maker. During World War II, his was an exempted occupation - he was not draftable - but feeling that he should serve, he volunteered, became an artilleryman, served with the Third Army and was decorated with the Bronze Star. All of my uncles were veterans of the Second World War; I have only one left. I remember when they were men in their prime, building this country. Now they are fading, and we are all, not just their relatives, the poorer for their loss.
