17 More

At least 17 American soldiers died in Iraq today, 16 in a helicopter crash that appears to have been a shootdown. Ronald Dumsfeld announced that such tragedies are, brace yourself, necessary:

"It's clearly a tragic day for America ... In a long, hard war, we're going to have tragic days," Rumsfeld said. "But they're necessary. They're part of a war that's difficult and complicated."

Easy to say when the chickenhawks and chickenhawk spawn aren't the ones dying, of course. Besides, Ronald, didn't your President announce some months ago that the war was over? Hm?
