Some of Chimpy's Lies Start to Catch Up

Everyone with half a brain - the blue folk - knew that the Chimp was lying when he claimed that his Medicare drug benefit would cost $400 billion over ten years. Well, that amount has already almost doubled, and it's Katy bar the door for the future of a program with no price controls:

The higher figure, which provides the first glimpse of the true cost of the drug benefit, could touch off a political uproar in Congress, where conservative Republicans were already expressing alarm about the costs of Medicare, including the drug benefit.

In a recent interview, the new chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Judd Gregg, Republican of New Hampshire, said he wanted to "put the brakes on the growth of entitlements" and take a close look at the new Medicare law.

"Since it was sold as a $400 billion program, that's what we should keep it at," Mr. Gregg said.

Mind you, I'm not necessarily against the Medicare benefit. I think we're insane for putting up with the fact that we're the only country in the developed world without national healthcare. But it's always fun to see Caligula's lies catch up - even if the dumbshits who voted for him will continue doing their appropriately chimp-like "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" act as they fail to recognize that their Chimperor is in fact nude.
