Passing of a Hero

Retired Colonel David Hackworth has passed away at the age of 74, his death caused by a form of bladder cancer that is suspiciously common among Vietnam vets who, like Hack, were exposed to chemical defoliants. Although a conservative military man, Hack was admired by many who disagreed with some of his positions, because above all, Colonel Hackworth told the truth and nothing but. Even in the last few weeks of his life, Hack was still keeping up with developments in Iraq, a war he obviously thought ill-advised and poorly fought. Hack was an officer for the common soldier; his insight and sense of honor will be sorely missed. He will be buried at Arlington amongst the men he served with.

God bless you, sir.
