They're Planning Never to Lose Again

Digby comments, as others have before him:

No, you really do have to wonder how they think they can get away with such radical changes that have no constitutional or even popular support. It really does make you have to at least consider the possibility that they know they will not lose elections.

Well, they've successfully stolen the last two presidential elections, the first by judicial fiat, the second by outright vote manipulation, as pretty solidly proven by exit poll results. Jim Lampley over at the new Arianna group blog:

We know that professionally conceived samples simply do not yield results which vary six, eight, ten points from eventual data returns, thaty's why there are identifiable margins for error. We know that margins for error are valid, and that results have fallen within the error range for every Presidential election for the past fifty years prior to last fall. NEVER have exit polls varied by beyond-error margins in a single state, not since 1948 when this kind of polling began. In this past election it happened in ten states, all of them swing states, all of them in Bush's favor. Coincidence? Of course not.

That's been pointed out before, but it doesn't hurt to repeat it, and keep repeating it. Exit polls historically have proven remarkably accurate - but, starting with the midterm elections of 2002, they suddenly stopped working. Witness the case of Georgia, where the Democratic candidates for governor and senate were leading in both regular polls and exit polls by a good margin and then lost. In the days leading up to the presidential election of 2004, polls were showing Kerry with a small but significant lead. Exit polling in important states like Ohio appeared to show him winning. Mysteriously, the final result went the other way and we were hammered with four more years of the murderous Chimp and his manic crew.

Now they're trying to push through a wide variety of unpopular crap that benefits the rich and powerful - privitizing the national parks, destroying social security, doing away with the filibuster, even ending judicial review, not to mention running a war they started using methods we hanged certain Germans for sixty years ago. They don't plan on losing ever again. Evidence suggests they have good reason for confidence, not only that they've successfully stolen elections, but that the American people have just rolled over and taken it.
