My partner and I watched in disbelief last night as the head of the Army Corps of Engineers appeared on ABC and blithely admitted that the levees of New Orleans had been designed to withstand a Category 3 hurricane and that building them to withstand what really happened - a Category 4/5 - would not have been cost-effective. Oh, really? In what way could better levees have been less cost-effective than the total destruction of the city? There's an ass who needs to be frog-marched in front of a firing squad - now.

Can't find a link to the piece at the moment, but I'll keep looking.
