A Little More Help

Americans have displayed their characteristic generosity in response to the Katrina disaster. But as Michael Benolkin reminds us at Cybermodeler Online, four-legged victims need your help too:

One problem area not being adequately covered by the media is the surviving pets. Hundreds of dogs, cats, and other creatures are being rescued with little hope of being reunited with their families. The Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org), United States Equestrian Foundation (www.usef.org/relief/index.php), American Veterinary Medical Foundation (www.avmf.org/html/index.asp), and other organizations are trying to care for them and they are obviously low on the post-disaster funding list. After you've helped those organizations that are helping the survivors, please consider a donation to one of these animal survivor support organizations.

The stories of people having to leave their pets behind are agonizing. You can help.
